In mid-August, incoming students to the Environmental Science and Everglades Restoration Magnet spent the day at South Plantation High so they would be comfortable on the first day of school. The one-day camp brought together 100 students from 15 different middle schools to meet each other and their teachers. They found their way around the school by competing in a scavenger hunt with school items from different locations. Upperclassmen served as counselors and teachers were facilitators encouraging the students to meet one another, learn their way around the campus, experience their high school event and learn how to work together as a team. At the end of the day parents joined their children for a brief dessert reception where they learned more about the program's expectations.
