                        Celebrating 10 Years of Excellence

In 2012 the Environmental Science and Everglades Restoration magnet is celebrating its 10th anniversary. When the Broward County School Board changed boundaries for South Plantation, 450 incoming freshmen were sent to western schools. The magnet was formed to bring in students from all over the county to study science. Currently 530 students focus their college-preparatory curriculum on science and technology. For the last six years acceptance to the magnet has been by random selection since there are more qualified applications than spaces are available.

The Magnet Schools of America organization named the Environmental Science and Everglades Restoration program a national Magnet School of Excellence in 2008, 2009, 2011, and we are waiting for the current awards to be announced. The Fairchild Challenge team has been the overall winner of the Challenge the last four years, outscoring teams from Dade and Broward counties. The Solar Knights have won the National Solar Car Challenge and have been Runner-Up twice.

The anniversary will be celebrated at the Green Gala in May which honors Youth Environmental Stewardship. Hopefully 10 graduating seniors will receive scholarships at the event indicating their academic and community service for the magnet.  Make your Tax Free Donation today to become any of the following Partners:

                        Activity Buses

Activity buses are for magnet students who participate in after-school activities: sports, clubs, tutoring, activities, and so on. The buses leave promptly at 5 p.m. on the north side of the school (usual bus loop). Students will ride a bus that corresponds to the route they take to and from school.

First students need to obtain a current Activity Bus Pass for 2011-2012 from the magnet office. Each day the student wants to ride a bus, the student must sign up in the magnet office by 12:30 p.m. to make sure a bus will be available to ride home. If no student signs up for a specific route (1000, 2000, 3000, 4000, 5000) then no bus will be at the school.

                        Upcoming Field Trips

Each student will go one of the days according to their class period.
